Core stability training involves working the muscles surrounding the body’s core; that is the muscles in the stomach and lower back. This form of training improves balance and coordination, tones the working muscles, protects the spine, enhances posture and minimises the risk of spinal and lower back injuries. |
Even without the latest muscle activity research, PBI are aware and have a consistent approach to identifying the key muscles, how they act, and the steps to establishing the best to train them. As with any type of strength and conditioning training, the protocol for improving the function of the deep-trunk muscles must be specific to the task required.
The position required, the type of contraction and the specificity for the task required are all relevant. The deep-trunk muscles act as ‘stabilisers’ and are not involved in movement. Personal Trainers at PBI place the principles of core training techniques using the ‘Swiss orthopaedic ball’—otherwise known as ‘Swiss balls’. |

PBI uses a range of exercises in the core stability workout, most of which are centred around the ‘Swiss ball’ (a large inflatable soft ball). By placing the body in an unstable environment, exercises are carried out to improve balance and coordination whilst providing a great workout. |

| The benefits of core stability training include: |
Toning of the middle body and improvement in lower back strength |
Improvement in balance and coordination |
Excellent for improving posture |

| Core Stability is particularly suitable if your requirements fall into any of the below: |
If you work in an office or are constantly sitting at a desk, core stability training will help to improve your posture, decreasing the risk of spinal and lower back problems. |
Once the body’s core is strong and stable, every day tasks such as hovering or walking the dog become much more manageable as less emphasis is placed on your back muscles due to the strengthening and stabilising of the muscles. |
Core stability training also improves your balance and co-ordination. |
